PANJIM: In a nail-biting final showcasing the highest level of competition and sportsmanship, Dimitri Smirnov outsmarted Santosh Gorawar 6-4, 4-6, 5-2 to emerge champion in the 2nd Invitational Tennis League 2024 organised by the First Serve Sports Club under the aegis of Goa State Tennis Association, at Clube de Goa, Porvorim, recently.
The match was a testament to the skill, dedication and passion, as both players exhibited throughout the season. Dimitri’s victory secures his place as this year’s league champion and adds another prestigious title to his career.
In the semi-finals, Smirnov showcased his resilience by overcoming Nagesh Naik 3-6, 6-0, 10-8, while Gorawar secured his final berth with a hard-fought 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 win against Suraj Sadanah.
Twenty four tennis players from across Goa participated in the league.
“We’ve seen incredible performances from all players this season, and final was the perfect way to end the year,” said First Serve Sports Club Secretary Kedar Tari .
“We can’t wait to come back next season with even more exciting matches."
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Goa State Tennis Association President Samir Kakodkar, coach Valentino and Clube de Goa members Allan Fernandes (president), Kedar Tari (secretary) and Wayne Fernandes (treasurer).
