MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa came from a goal down to edge past FC Goaby 2-1 margin in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.

After Thursday’s win Sporting Clube have 9 points from three matches, while FC Goa have 6 points from four matches.

Both teams started at a fast pace with the ball travelling from one end to another. Young Gaurs stunned their opponents by scoring in the very 2nd minute of play.

Sporting Clube’s custodian Abhimanyu Singh poor kick to his skipper Dattaraj Gaonkar was intercepted by Young Gaurs’ Lemmet Tangvah, who covered some ground and beautifully chipped the ball into the far corner of the unguarded 1-0.

In the 23rd minute, Sporting Clube’s U-21 Crespo D’Souza playing on the right flank twice sent two brilliant crosses, first to Klusner Pereira, at the far post saw his strike being blocked by Young Gaurs goalkeeper Lionel Rymmei for corner. Two minutes later, this time found U-21 Francisco Fernandes, who dribbled past defender Balkaran Singh but failed to keep his shot inside the goal frame.

At the other end, Young Gaurs U-21 Sitroy Carvalho and U-21 Bryson Pereira saw their strikes travel just over the crossbar.

Finally, Sporting Clube tasted success to level terms in the 45th minute when skipper Dattaraj Gaonkar set up Selwyn Miranda who got the better of Young Gaurs defender Sitroy and placed the ball into the goal 1-1.

Six minutes into the second session, Young Gaurs should have taken the lead but Bryson Pereira after collecting a pass from Jovial Dias drilled a stiff grounder which came off the far post.

In the 58th minute, a long kick by Sporting Clube custodian Abhimanyu saw two Young Gaurs defenders miss the flight of the ball to find substitute Doyal Alves control the ball and beat the onrushing rival custodian and place the ball into the goal 2-1.

Two minutes later, Sporting Clube’s custodian Abhimanyu left his charge to thwart Lalthangliana in one to one situation.

Play was then mostly restricted to the midfield with a couple of attempts by Young Gaurs going in vain.
