MAPUSA: Geno FC proved to be too good by drubbing Pax of Nagoa SC 4-1 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.

For Geno FC, U-21 Sidney Gauncar, Sheldon Pereira and Nigel Fernandes (2) scored, while Velroy Cardozo pulled a goal for Pax of Nagoa.

With Friday’s win Geno FC have 10 points, while Pax of Nagoa have six points both having played their sixth league match.

Geno FC did have better of exchanges and attacks at the rival goal but two of their goals were ruled for offside by Referee Ritesh Parsekar early in the match.

At the other end, Pax of Nagoa did shine in patches but Geno FC’s goalkeeper Akshat Hadkonkar was hardly tested, while Pax of Nagao’s custodian Vishal Sunar brought some good saves from Flan Gomes and Sheldon Pereira.

In the very first minute of stoppage time, Geno FC’s Sheldon beat the offside trap and after covering some ground got the better of onrushing Pax of Nagoa’s goalkeeper but his lob at the goal was timely cleared by defender Joseph Clemente. However, a minute later, Geno FC’s U-21 Sidney drove a rasping 30-yard strike which crashed into the far corner of the goal, 1-0.

Just two minutes into the second session, Geno FC colts doubled their lead with Sheldon Pereira connecting Saideep Pomburphekar’s low cross into the goal, 2-0.

Hardly had the cheers died down, Geno FC’s substitute Nigel Fernandes caught the Pax of Nagoa’s goalkeeper on the wrong foot as he drilled a curling 25-yard left footer which sneaked into the top corner of the goal 3- 0.

In the 57th minute, Geno FC’s Nigel Fernandes strike from close was blocked by Pax of Nagoa’s goalkeeper and in a counter attack Pax of Nagoa’s substitute Velroy Cardozo getting hold of a ball inside the 18-yard box scored, 3-1.

Pepped up by the goal, Pax of Nagoa had three more attempts at the rival goal but Jesloy Moniz missed two open sitters, while Joywin Carneiro’s header sailed just over the crossbar.

While Pax of Nagoa failed to score, Geno FC pumped in their fourth goal with Nigel scoring from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Pax of Nagoa’s Aditya Salgaocar inside the penalty box, 4-1.
