MAPUSA: Two late goals by Cyril Dias and Velroy Cardozo enabled Guardian Angel Sports Club register a 2-1 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.
All the goals came in the second session of play with Vasco SC’s Manglieboi Neihsial opening the account with Cyril Dias and Velroy Cardozo scoring two late goals to give Guardian Angel SC their first GPL win.
After Thursday’s win, Guardian Angel SC have four points from four matches, while Vasco SC have also four points but from five matches.
Vasco SC colts had two glorious chances of taking the lead where striker Lalnunzama was unlucky not to score.
In the very 3rd minute, Lalnunzama controlled a floater from medio Manglieboi Neihsial and took a shot at the goal which was brilliantly blocked by onrushing Vasco SC’s goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues.
Twenty minutes later, once again Lalnunzama controlled Rohmingthanga Bawlte floater, beat on rushing Guardian Angel SC’s goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues but saw his header travel out to the disbelief of his teammates and supporters.
Two minutes later at the other end, Airen Fernandes found U-21 Preston Castano at the far end only to find his tap hit the crossbar and go out.
Two more chances went abegging for Vasco SC colts, where a hot-blooded shot from Lalnunzama was blocked by custodian Oswin at the first post, while a minute later Oswin Rodrigues left his charge to thwart substitute U-21 Kenneth Pereira and the ball rolled to Lalnunzama whose goal bound strike went just past the unguarded goal.
Ten minutes into the second session and Guardian Angel SC’s skipper Gilbert Oliveira drove a scorching right footer which banged the upright and went out.
In the very next minute, a long ball from the Vasco SC’s custodian saw skipper Lalnunsiama control the ball, who in turn passed the ball to overlapping Manglieboi Neihsial, who brilliantly dribbled past the defender and onrushing goalkeeper and placed the ball into the goal, 1-0.
At the other end, Guardian Angel SC’s were once again unlucky when goal-bound shot from Joywin Costa ricocheted off the crossbar.
At the other end, Vasco SC’s Kenneth Pereira sent a low cross to Lalnunsiama who beautifully connect his strike at the goal only to find Guardian Angel’s custodian Oswin push the ball for a corner with a full stretched diving save.
The match came to life in the five minutes of stoppage time where Guardian Angel SC not only equalised through Cyril’s goal off Kenneth Pereira’s cross, 1-1, but saw substitute Velroy connect a pinpoint cross from Fedrich Fernandes, 2-1, to see the players and supporters go into raptures.
