PANJIM/RAIA: Piedade Youth Association (PYA) downed Kevnem Sports Club 3-0 in the Goa Football Association’s Division III League match played at Agassaim ground, on Monday.
The match started on an equal footing and the play was mostly confined to the midfield as Kevnem Sports Club showed resistance to thwart the PYA’s attacking moves. In the 25th minute, PYA midfielder Macan made a swift move to look at the goal but was withheld in the goal area by the rival defenders. Sohum also tried to capitalise on an opportunity but in vain.
As the match progressed, PYA striker Rohan Pednekar’s two beautiful header attempts were punched out by the tall Kevnem Sports Club goalkeeper.
Kevnem Sports Club tried their best to thwart the opponent’s goal scoring attempts and in the bargain a rough tackle by Kevnem Sports Club defender resulted in a penalty. PYA midfielder Macan came forward and confidently converted it into goal, 1-0.
Later on, the islanders dominated the proceedings but could not increase their lead. At half time, the PYA were leading 1-0.
On resumption of play, Kevnem Sports Club regrouped with renewed ideas and made some attacking moves in the rival’s citadel.
In the fast paced match, PYA’s shrewd striker Rohan dribbled past the Kevnem Sports Club defenders and unleashed a power-packed shot into the goal to double his team’s lead in the 69th minute. In the dying minutes of the game, PYA’s Tejas added another goal to the scorer’s list.
At Don Bosco Oratory ground, Fatorda, Deao Sports Club edged past Raia Sporting Club 5-4 in a play-off match.
Deao Sports Club netted through Princen Costa, Ivo Costa, Joshua Dias, Livon Dias and Rasly Fernandes netted a goal each.
For Raia Sporting Club Anthony Fernandes, Ravindra Gaude, Manthan Naik and Mantesh Gaude scored a goal each.
