RAIA: Sporting Club of Davorlim made it to the semi-finals defeating United Club of Verna 4-3 via penalty shoot-out in the 49th Chandor Seamen Trophy football tournament played at Chandor, on Monday.

Sporting Club of Davorlim started with a sense of urgency and came close to opening an account in the 4th minute when Delton Colaco missed in a close encounter with the rival custodian.

United Club of Verna also put up a valiant fight looking for an opening but seemed to lack shooting prowess. Sporting Club of Davorlim made several dangerous forays into the rival territory and their chance came when the ball rebounded in the field of play from the hands of UC Verna custodian, and SC Davorlim’s Reeve D’Costa lost no time and placed the ball into the UC Verna net hoodwinking the custodian in the 23rd minute.

SC Davorlim Sporting Club led 1-0 at interval.

Changing sides, the youthful UC Verna seemed to come back with renewed ideas and vigour. UC Verna’s efforts bore fruit in the 49th minute when a cross from the flanks, resulted in a powerful header from Clive Fernandes into the SC Davorlim net catching the custodian gaping.

In the 53rd minute, Reeve missed to convert a pass from the midfield missing his brace very narrowly.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time. In the resultant penalty shoot-out that followed Selwyn Miranda, Milton Colaco and Agnelo Colaco scored for Sporting Club of Davorlim, while Lenon Pereira and Fulgencio Cardozo were on target for United Club of Verna.

Sporting Club of Davorlim will now meet Curtorim Gymkhana in the semi-finals.

Francisco Colaco of Sporting Club of Davorlim was awarded the man-of-the-match.
