MAPUSA: Xetrapal Sports Club registered a well-deserved 2-0 win over Peddem Bomm SC in the Goa Football Association’s (GFA) Division III League Bardez Zone match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.

After Tuesday’s win Xetrapal SC with 15 points qualify for play-offs, while Peddem Bomm SC have 12 points, same as HC Arambol and Sai Avatar SC Anjuna.

Xetrapal SCC struck a goal in each session of play through Sonu Mandrekar (32nd minute) and Raj Dalvi (95th minute).

Peddem Bomm SC had better of exchanges but their strikers failed to score.

In the 24th minute, Pratik Dhargalkar squared the ball to unmarked Aryan Salunke who to his teammate’s unbelief shot into the rival goalkeeper hands.

At the other end, Xetrapal SC’s Pankesh Goltekar placement travelled out, while Yash Simepurushkar shot skywards from close.

However, finally in the 32nd minute, Xetrapal SC forged ahead from a clinical finish from Sonu Mandrekar 1-0.

Stung by the reverse, Peddem Bomm SC exerted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel but Pedro Gonsalves’ smart header was superbly fisted for a corner by Xetrapal SC custodian Ashitosh Gadekar, while a free-kick by Vinayak Mulgaonkar saw custodian Ashitosh collect the ball confidently.

On resumption of play, Xetrapal SC dictated terms and should have doubled their lead in the 87th minute when Sonu Mandrekar set up substitute Saleen Shirodkar whose strike at the goal hit the rival defender. Another chance went a begging when Peddem Bomm SC’s custodian Soma Korgaonkar brilliantly paired Raunak Toraskar’s hot-blooded shot for a corner.

However, the keeper could do very little to stop Raj Dalvi to place the ball inside the unguarded goal in stoppage time, 2-0.
