PANJIM: What started as a peaceful Gram Sabha in Anjuna escalated into chaos when Dr. InacioFernandes and his group, advocating for stricter controls on noise pollution and unwanted events in the village, were allegedly assaulted. The altercation began after Fernandes spoke about the negative impact of late-night noise on the community. In this edition of Street Voices, Herald TV spoke to people whether the Anjuna assault on anti-noise pollution activist has angered people across Goa.
if we observe Anjuna, there is so much noise at night. The Delhiwalas and the Bombaywalas party all night. Dr Inacio Fernandes has come forward to protect the village. To bring peace to the village because there is no peace and tranquility in the village. While night the parties and noise goes on, sometimes till 4 am. High Court has already ordered that this nuisance should be stopped. In defiance of the high court order they continue to make noise. They have gone an attacked the person who has stood by the village and stop this nuisance when High Court has given the order. Its not only an attack on the activist Dr Inacio, it is an attack on the judiciary.

Only those who suffer, know the problem of noise pollution and how they are suffering. Even when the High Court has taken cognizance, the authorities are not acting. Hence there is an outburst in such a manner. The government has to act as per the existing rules. They should not act to harass certain people or protect certain people. This is just not done. They should act as per law and not allow such ugly incidents to happen at the Gram Sabha. This will not happen if the authorities act without any bias.

I saw the video and what was strange was not that the police did not act against the accused, it happened all of a sudden, the man came and assaulted Dr Inacio who is an activist from the area, from Anjuna. I know him personally. He was attacked by a man called Gajanan Tilve who has links with the BJP and what was very very strange was that they police did not arrest him, but allowed him three or four times to come back to the premises. Now we are tolerating the police for so long, whether it is the case of Velingkar where they did not arrest him, but they booked Fr Bolmax. Forget about that, but this law and order is the job of the police. If they are doing the bidding of the government, they should do some other job.
